How To Become A Guru Of Anything by Fareed Raja

My professional advice is always master your craft.  In becoming an expert is not all about knowing the ins and outs of your expertise, but to remain open and flexible to learn more, be versatile, and to add addtional skills depth of knowledge to your craft.

In a lifetime, people use just a tiny percentage of their capabilities. We live in a world where people put emphasis on replicating others instead of finding their true abilities. In reality, learning about one’s innate wisdom and using that wisdom to polish their skills is the key to becoming an expert in a given field.

Success is typically linked with intelligence, education, and luck. Even without a traditional schooling, hard work and willpower can put you on the road to success. Luck itself is the end product of the amount of effort you’re putting towards acquiring a skill.

Putting ample time and effort can certainly give you expertise in a relevant field of choice. You reap what you sow! Becoming a top notch chef, fashion designer, a great public speaker etc. These might seem hard from a distance but they are all do-able. Do you want to acquire a skill and become an expert in something? Here are a few pointers that can help:

  • Carefully pick up a skill you want to acquire
  • Gain relevant knowledge regarding this skill through different means; books, lectures, professionals etc
  • Take some time out of your day to research and start practicing on a regular basis
  • Find people who are already considered experts in the field; and also the ones who are currently acquiring the same skill
  • Pass on the knowledge to others; this will help you gain experience in the particular field and further polish your skill
  • Have a positive attitude during this process of learning and remember not to compare your speed of learning with others

I am currently working towards acquiring a number of skills. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal dedication and will power. You wouldn’t have a problem learning anything as long as you stay focused and have a hunger for success.
